OT Risk Assessment | Falls Risk Assessment

Our occupational therapists can come to your home to determine the risk of you having a fall. We examine your environment and your daily activities, and advise on your risk factors and what you can change in your environment to prevent a fall.

Consequences of a fall

Falls are a leading cause of injury in people aged over 65 – 1 in 4 people in this age group have at least 1 fall per year. Around 27,000 people are hospitalised each year due to falls.

Serious consequences can include trauma, pain, impaired function and reduced confidence in carrying out everyday activities. You may even lose your sense of independence and autonomy and a fall is a common reason for premature admission to residential aged care. We can help you modify your environment and activities to prevent a fall occurring.

Assessment and training

During a falls risk assessment, we examine your physical and cognitive function as it relates to your everyday environment and the activities you need to perform.

We can pinpoint your specific risk factors and help you put strategies and modifications in place to prevent falls.

Being able to get yourself up from the floor can be lifesaving. So we also give you the knowledge and skills you need to get up from the floor, and the confidence and patience to do it if you ever need to.
